Histoire d’O

Guido Crepax. Texts by Roland Barthes, Maurizio Fagiolo dell'Arco, Alain Robbe-Grillet
1975 / 338 PAGES. Language: Italian; French
With Histoire d’O, comics – and erotic comics in particular – enter the discreet, tranquil world of bibliophilia.
The subject of the volume is Pauline Réage’s perverse novel, which caused a scandal on its publication and secured a place for eroticism in modern literature. Here, the novel is adapted into comics, making this the first comic book in the history of contemporary bibliophilia, as well as the first book to be printed entirely using silkscreen. Guido Crepax’s comic-strip panels are reproduced in large folio format, at their original size (50 × 35 cm), and accompanied on facing pages by a concise anthology of Freudian analyses. Roland Barthes, Alain Robbe-Grillet and Maurizio Fagiolo Dell’Arco introduce this graphic jeu d’esprit, now admitted to the ‘infernos’ of major libraries. 900 numbered copies, signed by the artist.
